How To Avoid Getting A Speeding Ticket
It's not much fun when you learn that you are the recipient of a speeding ticket! Fines and driving licence endorsements can cost you time, money and make you stressed about driving. I have been driving for over 16 years and have received a total of two speeding tickets in that time.
In some places, such as the UK, В car insurance premiums increase as a result of speeding tickets and endorsements. And if you rack up too many speeding tickets in a short period, you could end up losing your driving licence!
If you want to avoid getting a speeding ticket, make sure you follow these useful tips!
Be aware of your surroundings
Just bought a high-performance BMW from countrycar.co.uk? If so, it doesn't mean you can drive at any speed you like! One of the golden rules to avoid getting a speeding ticket is to be aware of your surroundings.
If cars ahead of you are slowing down, there's usually a good reason for it. For example, you might be entering a built-up area, or are about to approach a school zone. Not all roads have signposted speed limits.
Let's say that you are driving on an open road with no signs. If the street lamp posts are around 200 yards apart, the speed limit is 30 mph. Make sure that you adjust your speed to suit the speed limits, and all will be well.
Don't draw attention to yourself
Driving a shiny red Ferrari? Doing about 120 mph on the motorway? If so, you are far more likely to get pulled over by the police for speeding.
But what if you are driving an “ordinary” car and stick to the nearside or middle lane? You are less likely to get pulled over, especially if you are sticking to the flow of traffic.
In short, don't make yourself stick out like a sore thumb!
Be polite if you get pulled over
Do you see the “blues and twos” behind you? Getting pulled over by the police is bad enough. But getting sent on your way with a speeding ticket and a stern talking to is even worse!
Whatever you do, please don't talk to the police officer in an arrogant or threatening manner. By doing that, you are likely to end up going to jail and losing your liberty!
Be polite to the police officer, eat lots of humble pie and accept that what you have done is wrong. The police officer might let you off with a warning if you come across as sincere and genuine.
Learn the speed limits for various road types
A shocking amount of drivers don't know what the speed limit is for certain road types! The thing is, you get taught this information when you learn to drive.
Has it been a while since you passed your driving test? If so, familiarise yourself with the current speed limits in your country. Once you know about the speed limits, you will drive better in the future!
